You see the layout before we cut
Engraving cannot be undone. That single fact shapes how we do it — nothing gets cut until you have seen exactly what will be cut, where it will sit, and how it will look at the size it is actually going to be.
People underestimate how much room a date takes inside a band, or how small initials become on the back of a pendant. So we lay it out and show you first. It is a two-minute conversation that prevents the one mistake that cannot be fixed. The work itself is done here in the store, same day in most cases, and the piece never leaves the building.
- Layout shown and agreed before anything is engraved.
- Inside rings, backs of pendants, bracelets, watch cases.
- We will tell you if the text is too long for the space, before you commit to it.
- Same day in most cases.
Come in during mall hours and we will show you how it will look.
Jewelry
Inside a wedding band, the back of a locket, a bracelet's ID plate, the caseback of a watch. Dates, initials, a name, a line worth keeping.
How much fits depends on the piece and the lettering. A wide band takes a sentence; a narrow one takes initials and a date. Bring the piece and we will show you what it will look like at actual size rather than guessing from a font sheet.
Bottles, glassware and gifts
Bottles for a birthday, an anniversary, a retirement or a groomsman's gift. Glassware, barware, tankards, flasks, plaques and awards.
Engraved glass is permanent in a way a printed label is not — the bottle gets kept long after what was in it is gone.
What to bring, and when
Bring the item and the exact wording written down. Spelling is the one thing that cannot be undone, so we will read it back to you before anything is cut.
If it is for a date — a wedding, an anniversary, a retirement — come in earlier than you think you need to. Engraving is quick; deciding on the wording never is.
Lettering
Block, script and italic, in a range of sizes. Script suits a wide flat surface. Block holds up better small, which matters inside a narrow ring.
What we engrave
- Rings — inside a wedding band, a date, initials, a line of handwriting.
- Pendants, lockets, dog tags and bar necklaces.
- ID bracelets and medical alert bracelets.
- Watch case backs — retirement, service, graduation.
- Bottles — whiskey, wine, champagne and tequila, for gifts and celebrations.
- Gifts and barware — flasks, lighters, money clips, pens, keychains, picture frames, plaques and trophies.
Fonts, handwriting and symbols
Block, script, italic and old English. Actual handwriting can be reproduced from a photo — a signature, a note, a child's writing — which is the most-requested engraving we do and the one people are most surprised is possible.
Hearts, crosses, infinity symbols, fingerprints, soundwaves, dates in any format, and short lines in other alphabets.
What will it cost?
What is the piece — a ring, a bracelet, a watch back, a bottle? How much do you want it to say, and is there room for it? Inside or outside? Is the surface curved, plated, or hardened? That is exactly why we would rather see it than guess at it. Come and find us at Orland Square Mall — most repairs are finished in thirty to sixty minutes while you are walking around.
Straight to your question
- I want to engrave the inside of a wedding band
- Can you engrave a watch back?
- I want a message engraved on a bracelet
- Can you engrave a bottle as a gift?
- Can you redo an engraving that’s already there?
Questions we get asked
How long does engraving take?
Same day in most cases, and often while you wait depending on the piece and the length of the text.
Can engraving be removed or changed later?
Sometimes, by polishing it out — but that removes metal and it does not always come out cleanly. This is why we show you the layout before we cut anything. It is far easier to get it right the first time.
Can you engrave a ring I did not buy from you?
Yes. Bring it in and we will check the surface and show you what fits.
How many characters fit inside a wedding band?
It depends on the width of the band and the lettering. We will lay it out at actual size before cutting so there are no surprises.
Can you engrave a bottle?
Yes — bottles, glassware, flasks, tankards and awards. A popular gift for weddings, birthdays and retirements.
Can engraving be removed later?
Sometimes on a ring, by polishing out and refinishing, though it removes metal. On glass it is permanent. We will read the wording back to you first for exactly this reason.
How far ahead should I come in for a gift?
Sooner than you think. The engraving is fast; settling the wording is what takes time.
