That is completely normal and it is not a problem. Most pieces are stamped somewhere and we will find it. If yours is not, we will test it at the counter and tell you what it is before we talk about anything else.
Why the metal changes the job
Gold, silver and platinum all solder at different temperatures and take a finish differently. Plated and filled pieces have something else underneath. Stainless does not solder at all, so it gets worked another way. Soft stones cannot go near heat. None of that is a reason a piece cannot be fixed — it is the reason it should be fixed by a bench that knows which one it is holding.

Do you work on stainless steel?
Yes. Plenty of counters turn it away. Bring yours in.
Can plated and costume jewelry be repaired?
Often, yes, and we can replate afterwards. Bring it in and we will tell you what we see.
How do I know what metal my piece is?
Most are stamped and we will find it. If not, we test it at the counter and tell you.
Which stones cannot go near heat?
Emerald, opal and pearl are the main ones, and there are others. Tell us what it is and we will plan the work around the stone.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk in during mall hours.

Send a couple of details and we will call you back. Or just walk in — it is quicker, and we can actually look at the piece.
