What comes in most
- A bangle that has been sat on or caught and gone out of round.
- A broken link on a silver chain bracelet.
- A clasp that has stopped holding, replaced in silver rather than a plated substitute.
- A cuff that has opened up and stopped gripping the wrist.
- Length — shortened, or an extender added.
- Tarnish taken out of the links and the detail.
- Charms and safety chains refitted.
Silver bends, and that is useful
A gold bangle pushed too far can crack. Silver tends to go out of shape instead, which means a bent one usually comes back. It is bench work with the right formers rather than something to try at home, because silver work-hardens and a bangle bent back and forth eventually gives.
Cuffs that have stopped gripping
A silver cuff holds by tension, and years of putting it on and taking it off open it up. Closing it back to your wrist is a reshaping job, and it is worth doing with you here so we get it to your actual wrist rather than an average one.
Tarnish comes off while it is here
Bracelets get dark in exactly the places a cloth cannot reach — inside links, behind charms, in engraved detail. That gets done properly on the bench.
Bring it in and we will look at it
Every piece is different and silver bracelets especially so. Put it on the counter, tell us what has happened, and we will tell you what we see and what we would do about it. You decide from there, before anything is agreed.
Questions we get asked
Can a bent silver bangle be straightened?
Usually, yes. Silver reshapes rather than cracking. Bring it in and we will look at it.
My silver cuff has loosened — can it be tightened?
Yes, and we would rather do it with you here so it fits your wrist.
Can you replace a silver clasp?
Yes, in silver rather than a plated substitute.
Can you clean the tarnish out of the links?
Yes, properly, which is where a cloth at home cannot reach.
Will you tell me what you find before doing any work?
Always. We look at it with you at the counter, tell you what we see, and you decide.
Not sure we can fix it?
Send a couple of details and we will call you back. Or just walk in — it is quicker, and we can actually look at the piece.
