Why it goes there
The post is soldered to the back of the earring, and that joint is where the lever action of every knock, every pillow and every jumper collar concentrates. Metal fatigues at that point long before it does anywhere else.
What we do
A new post is fitted and soldered in place. The choice worth making now is friction or screw. A screw post means the back threads on and physically cannot slide off — if you have lost one of a pair before, this is the moment to change.
Stones change the approach
If the earring has a stone close to where the post attaches, heat has to be managed or the stone has to come out first. Opal, emerald, pearl and some treated stones do not go near a torch at all. We identify what you have before we plan anything.
Bring the pair
The other one has had the same years and the same pillow. Checking it now is quick; finding out the hard way is not.
Questions we get asked
Can a snapped post be repaired?
Yes. A new post is fitted and soldered. Most are same day.
Should I switch to screw backs?
If you have ever lost one, yes. The back threads on and cannot slide off.
What if there is a stone right there?
We identify it first. Heat-sensitive stones come out or the work is routed around them.
Do you check the other earring?
Always. They wear as a pair.
Not sure we can fix it?
Send a couple of details and we will call you back. Or just walk in — it is quicker, and we can actually look at the piece.
