Three different problems that feel the same
The back is tired. A friction back is a small piece of metal squeezing the post. After enough on-and-off it stops squeezing. New backs fix it and cost almost nothing.
The post is bent. Sleeping in earrings will do it. A bent post does not let the back seat square, so it slides. This is straightened at the bench.
The post is worn thin where the back grips it. Years of the same back in the same spot polishes a groove. A new back will not hold on a thinned post — the post needs attention.
The answer a lot of people want
Screw backs. The post is threaded and the back screws on, so it physically cannot slide off. If you have ever lost one of a pair you loved, this is the conversation to have. It is a straightforward change on most earrings and it ends the problem permanently.
What we will look at
Is it the back, the post, or both? Is the post bent or thinned? Is there a stone sitting right where the work would need heat? Are these a pair you wear every day, or occasionally — because that changes what we would recommend?

Questions we get asked
Can you put screw backs on my earrings?
On most of them, yes. The post gets threaded and the back screws on so it cannot slide off. Bring them in and we will look at the posts.
Can you fix a bent post?
Usually it straightens. If it has been bent and straightened a few times already it may be better to replace it, and we will tell you which.
Do you sell replacement backs?
Yes, and if that is genuinely all you need we will say so rather than sell you a repair.
How long does it take?
Most earring work is fifteen to thirty minutes at the counter.
