My watch battery died

It stopped, or the second hand is ticking in little jumps every few seconds. Most of the time that is a battery, and most of the time you can have it back on your wrist before you leave the mall.

Ten to fifteen minutes · usually
One year warranty · on the battery
Case resealed · every time we open one
Walk in · no appointment

Inside Orland Square Mall · walk in during mall hours, no appointment · most repairs finished the same day

A watch movement opened on the bench under gloved hands

What we do when it comes across the counter

Snap back, screw back, or screw-down case? Has the old cell leaked onto the contacts — because if it has, cleaning that is part of the job and skipping it will cost you the movement. Is the gasket still soft, or has it gone hard and flat? We open it, fit a fresh cell, and reseal the case before it goes back to you.

The battery carries a one year warranty. If it dies inside that, bring it back.

That little jump every four seconds

If the second hand is moving in four-second steps instead of one, that is your watch telling you the battery is nearly out. It is a feature, not a fault. You have days rather than weeks.

When it is not the battery

Sometimes a fresh cell goes in and nothing happens, or it runs for a week and stops again. That points at the movement, the contacts, or moisture that got in at some point. We will tell you what we find and what it would take, and you decide from there.

Bring the whole watch

Not just the back. While it is open we can see the gasket, the contacts and the inside of the crystal, and those are the things that decide whether the next battery lasts as long as it should.

Questions we get asked

How long does it take?

Usually ten to fifteen minutes at the counter. Walk in during mall hours.

Do you reseal the case?

Yes, every time we open one. The gasket gets checked and the case goes back together properly.

What if the battery dies again quickly?

Bring it back. The battery is covered for a year, and a cell that dies early usually means something else wants looking at.

Can you open a screw-down back?

Yes. Bring it in and we will take a look at it.

Not sure we can fix it?

Send a couple of details and we will call you back. Or just walk in — it is quicker, and we can actually look at the piece.

Drop it off, shop the mall, wear it tonight
