The plate
Width, length and thickness all matter. A plate that is too thin for a heavy chain bends. Too small and there is no room for what you want on it. We will look at what you want engraved first and work back to a plate that fits it comfortably.
The chain
Curb, Figaro, rope or a flat link. It needs to suit the plate in weight as well as look — a fine chain under a heavy plate wears through at the connection. And it needs to be the right length for your wrist, which we will measure rather than guess.
What goes on it
- A name, first or full.
- A date, or several.
- Initials or a monogram.
- Medical information, which we take extra care over and read back to you before cutting.
- Something on the back as well as the front — plenty of people do both.
Materials
Gold in 10k, 14k or 18k, yellow or white. Sterling silver. Stainless steel, which is hard-wearing and takes a crisp engraving. Each one behaves differently and we will talk through what suits how you will wear it.
Questions we get asked
Can you make one in stainless?
Yes. It is hard-wearing and takes a very crisp engraving.
Can you engrave both sides?
Yes, and plenty of people do.
Do you make medical ID bracelets?
Yes. Bring the exact wording written down and we read it back before cutting.
How long does it take?
Usually one to two weeks.
Not sure we can fix it?
Send a couple of details and we will call you back. Or just walk in — it is quicker, and we can actually look at the piece.
