Choosing the lettering
This is the decision that matters most. Script is classic and flowing but needs enough size to stay readable. Block is bold and holds up at smaller sizes. Some names work beautifully in one and awkwardly in the other, usually for reasons nobody can predict until they see it drawn.
So we draw it. At the size it will be, so you are choosing from something real rather than imagining.
Size and weight
Bigger reads better and costs more metal. Smaller is subtle and can get fragile if the script has thin connections. Long names need either more width or a smaller letter height. We will show you the trade rather than just asking what size you want.
The chain matters as much as the plate
A nameplate hangs from its chain all day. Too fine a chain for the plate and the bail wears through, or the chain gives. We will match them properly rather than sell you a plate and leave you to work it out.
What people have made
First names, children’s names, a nickname, a word that means something, a date, a set of initials, a name in another alphabet. If you can write it, bring it in.
Questions we get asked
Can I see it before it is made?
Yes. We draw it at the size it will actually be so you are choosing from something real.
Script or block?
Depends on the name. Some read beautifully one way and awkwardly the other, which is why we draw it first.
What chain should it go on?
One matched to the weight of the plate. We will sort that with you rather than leave it to chance.
How long does it take?
Usually one to two weeks.
Not sure we can fix it?
Send a couple of details and we will call you back. Or just walk in — it is quicker, and we can actually look at the piece.
Drop it off, shop the mall, wear it tonight
We are inside Orland Square Mall in Orland Park. Walk in during mall hours, no appointment. Most repairs are finished the same day and a good number while you wait.
