Why we can answer this honestly
A shop that only buys gold has one answer to every question. A shop that only repairs has the other. We do both under the same roof, so whichever way you go, it is work for us. That is the only reason this page can promise you a straight answer.
When repairing usually wins
- A chain that needs a clasp. Small job, and a working chain is worth far more than scrap.
- A ring that needs one prong. Same story.
- Anything with good stones in a sound setting. The stones are usually the value, not the gold.
- A piece somebody in the family would wear if it fitted or worked. Sentiment is a real value and it does not show on a scale.
When selling often makes more sense
- Pieces nobody will ever wear that would need significant work first.
- Single earrings with no partner and no obvious use.
- Heavily worn plated pieces, where there is little gold and a lot of base metal.
- Duplicates of something you already wear.
Bring the lot
Put it all on the counter and we will go through it with you, piece by piece. Some of it will be worth repairing, some worth selling, and some worth keeping exactly as it is. There is no pressure either way.
Questions we get asked
Will you tell me honestly?
Yes, and we can because we do both. Whichever way you go it is work for us.
What if the stones are worth more than the gold?
Often they are, and we will say so rather than weigh the whole thing as metal.
Can I bring a mixed box?
Please do. We will go through it piece by piece with you.
Do I have to decide there and then?
No. Take it home and think about it.

We are inside Orland Square Mall in Orland Park. Walk in during mall hours, no appointment. Most repairs are finished the same day and a good number while you wait.
