Why people have it done
- They stop spinning independently and the engagement ring stays facing up.
- They stop wearing on each other. Two bands rubbing all day thins both of them, and soldered they do not.
- One thing to put on. Easier every morning, and one less thing to lose.
- A gap closes. If the wedding band does not sit flush against the engagement ring, soldering can close that line.
- The set fits better as a unit than either ring does alone, which helps if a knuckle is larger than the finger.
How it is done
We line the two rings up in the position you actually wear them, check that is where you want them for good, and join them at the points where they meet. Then the stones get checked and tightened, the set is finished, and if either ring is white gold it gets rhodium so the join disappears.
Wear them in so we get the position right
Position is the whole job. Come in wearing them the way you like them and we will mark it with you at the counter, rather than guessing which way round looks best.
Different metals, or different karats
Common, and not a problem — a platinum band with a gold ring, or 14k with 18k. It changes the solder and the order of work. Worth putting both on the counter so we can look at what you have.
It can be undone
If you ever want them separated again, that is a job too. Nothing about this is permanent in a way you cannot come back from.
Bring it in and we will look at it
Every piece is different and wedding sets especially so. Put it on the counter, tell us what has happened, and we will tell you what we see and what we would do about it. You decide from there, before anything is agreed.
Questions we get asked
Can you solder my engagement ring and wedding band together?
Yes. Wear them in the way you like them so we can set the position with you.
Will it stop the engagement ring spinning?
That is the main reason people do it, and yes.
Can it be undone later?
Yes, they can be separated again if you ever want that.
What if the two rings are different metals?
Common and not a problem. It changes the solder and the order of work. Bring both in.
Do you check the stones at the same time?
Yes, every time, and we tell you what we find.
Will you tell me what you find before doing any work?
Always. We look at it with you at the counter, tell you what we see, and you decide.
Not sure we can fix it?
Send a couple of details and we will call you back. Or just walk in — it is quicker, and we can actually look at the piece.
