How much to take out
A bracelet should move a little — about a finger's width of gap — but not slide over the widest part of your hand. Sized dead tight it marks your wrist and you stop wearing it. Come in and we will fit it on you rather than guess.
Depends what it is
- Link bracelet — links come out, usually shared between both sides so the clasp stays where it should.
- Chain bracelet — shortened and the clasp reattached to the new end link, soldered shut.
- Tennis bracelet — links removed carefully with the stones kept clear of heat.
- Bangle — a different job. Bring it in and we will look at what yours allows.
- Watch-style bracelet — pins or screws, and everyday work here.
Keep what comes off
Every link goes back to you in a bag. If your wrist changes, or you pass the bracelet on, those links belong to it and matching them later is not always possible.
Wrists change through the year
Yours is bigger in August than in January. We size for the middle rather than for the day you happen to walk in.
Questions we get asked
Can you size it while I wait?
Usually. Walk in during mall hours and we will fit it on your wrist.
Do I keep the links?
Yes, bagged, every time. They belong to your bracelet.
How loose should it be?
About a finger's width of movement, and it should not pass over the widest part of your hand.
Can you make one bigger?
Sometimes, if links can be matched. Bring it in and we will see.
Not sure we can fix it?
Send a couple of details and we will call you back. Or just walk in — it is quicker, and we can actually look at the piece.
Drop it off, shop the mall, wear it tonight
We are inside Orland Square Mall in Orland Park. Walk in during mall hours, no appointment. Most repairs are finished the same day and a good number while you wait.
