You do not have to stop wearing it
Plenty of people quietly retire a favourite chain because the clasp became a five-minute job in front of a mirror. That is a clasp problem, not a jewelry problem, and clasps are replaceable.
What is easier to use
- Magnetic clasp with a safety catch — they find each other. The safety catch is the part that matters, and we would not fit one without it.
- Large lobster — same familiar action, much bigger to hold, far more forgiving.
- Box clasp with a push button — press and it releases. No pinching.
- Toggle — a bar through a ring. No spring at all, and some people find it the easiest of the lot.
- A clasp extender — brings the fastening round to the front where you can see it.
Try before you decide
Come in and work a few of them at the counter. What reads as easy in a description is not always easy in your hands, and two minutes of trying beats guessing.
Weight matters
On a heavy chain we will steer you towards a mechanical clasp with a positive lock rather than a magnet. We would rather tell you that than fit what you asked for and watch it come back.
Questions we get asked
Are magnetic clasps secure?
With a safety catch, for most chains, yes. On something heavy we will talk you through the alternatives first.
Can I try them before choosing?
Yes, and you should. Come in and work a few at the counter.
Will it look different?
A little, and usually not much. We match metal and colour and keep it in proportion to the chain.
How long does it take?
Usually while you wait. Walk in during mall hours.
Not sure we can fix it?
Send a couple of details and we will call you back. Or just walk in — it is quicker, and we can actually look at the piece.
Drop it off, shop the mall, wear it tonight
